Working together

Partners and collaborators

BayouWatch stands on public data and guidance from the organizations already working on Houston flood resilience.

  • Sensor infrastructure

    Harris County Flood Control District

HCFCD maintains the stream gauges across Harris County bayous that BayouWatch reads. Its public Flood Warning System telemetry is the backbone of our real-time water levels.

  • Flood modeling

    Rice University SSPEED Center

The Severe Storm Prediction, Education and Evacuation from Disasters Center advised on translating raw gauge stage into meaningful street-level flood risk.

  • Coordination and outreach

City of Houston Office of Emergency Management

OEM has advised on alert language, neighborhood priorities, and how a hyperlocal system can complement, rather than duplicate, official city warnings.

  • Funding model

    FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program

BayouWatch models its cost and deployment plan on HMGP guidelines, which fund community flood-resilience projects like solar-powered sensor networks.

  • Forecasts and flood stages

NOAA and the National Weather Service

NWS rainfall forecasts, active alerts and official flood categories for every gauge feed BayouWatch’s thresholds and predictive layer.
